Greetings!
The fall season has arrived and there is no better way to kick it off than walking for a cause! The “Exquisite” Epsilon Tau Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated would like to extend an invitation for you to participate in this year’s Walk-A-Thon, “Step in the Name of Progress: Honor Our Men.” The Walk-a-Thon will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2009 rain or shine at 1:00 P.M. in Riverside Park on 96th Street and Riverside Drive.
The Epsilon Tau Chapter, charted in 1965, has strived to play an integral part in the service needs of New York City since its inception. Our annual Walk-a-Thon is held to assist the chapter in funding our operational costs, our programs under the Sorority’s five-point thrust, and services such as our career and financial planning workshops, physical and mental health workshops, World AIDS Day program, Delta GEMS and the Elizabeth Chantal Darguste Scholarship of Excellence Dinner. This year the Walk-a-Thon will also serve as an introduction to a new national program of the Sorority, EMBODI: Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence, via this year’s theme of the “Black Male Crisis.”
Please join us as we address the factors that prevent African American males from reaching their full potential educationally, socially and emotionally. Emphasis will be placed on the nature of these factors and what we can do as a community to prevent them. Our goal is to allow attendees an opportunity to pick a cause important to them and reflect on how it is affecting the community, as well as to them individually. In addition, various activities have been planned for you throughout the walk.
